CNET editors' buying advice
We have not reviewed this product but here is CNET's buying advice on Washers. This content was chosen based on the features included with this model of washer.
Introduction to Washers
The washing machine that used to rattle around in the basement and seemed to have a life of its own now may double as high-tech appliance that is on display in many homes. They can be energy efficient and can practically dry clothes, too. Sensors in new washing machines also conserve water and can offer a range of settings from delicate/hand-wash to heavy duty or even sanitize.

Front loading washers
Front-loading washers are the most popular for higher-end shoppers. Some of the benefits of front-loading washers are that clothes tend to come out cleaner and the machines typically use less water, detergent, and energy. They can also be quieter than top-loading washing machines. Many front-loaders come in a set with a dryer and are calibrated to work together--those with faster spin cycles turn out dryer clothes (which mean they need less time in their companion clothes dryer). Some models are stackable with a dryer. Front-loading washers often cost more up front, but can save you money in the long run. You have to use high-efficiency detergent with these machines since regular clothes soap creates too many suds. The one downside for some people: depending on the height of the machine, you might have to stoop down to load and unload.

Wash Cycles
On standard washing machine models, you'll usually find about four cycles including heavy duty, normal, delicate, and permanent press. Advanced models will have those basics and more than a dozen other cycles such as prewash, rinse and spin, stains, steam, towels, bedding, baby care, bulky/large, cotton/normal, express wash, hand-wash/wool. Depending on the sophistication of your wardrobe, you may not need those extra settings.

Water Levels
In the past, most washing machines came with three basic "load" sizes that determined the water level: small, medium, and large. Newer, advanced washers often have sensors that detect the load size and amount of water needed.

Steam Feature
Why wash your clothes when you can steam them? Steaming clothes can clean them more efficiently, loosen dirt better, or just freshen up clothing items. Leading appliance makers like LG, Whirlpool, and Samsung all offer steam washers. Steam also conserves overall water usage.
