Samsung Electronics on Tuesday announced high-volume availability of its removable flash memory MultiMedia Cards (MMC). The company has a standard MMC and a
Reduced Size MMC available for mobile phones, digital cameras, digital audio players and other handheld devices. Storage capacities range from 16MB to 128MB. A 128MB MMC can hold up to 2,500 still photographs, 32 MP3 music files or 20 video minutes, according to Samsung.
The cards can read and write data at 1.3MB per second, operate on 3.3 volts, and consist of a NAND flash memory component and a controller. The South Korean manufacturer expects the market for the MMC and RS-MMC to jump from $200 million in 2003 to $500 million in 2004.
