Hotz wheels: iPhone hacker trades it all in for a Nissan 350Z

Hotz drives a bargain
(Credit: CNET Networks)What would you give to get your hands on the world's first unlocked Apple iPhone? How about three more 8GB iPhones plus a Nissan 350Z? That's the price for which overnight teenage tech celebrity George Hotz, who unlocked the iPhone enabling it to work on any network, has agreed to part with his hacked gadget. According to his blog, Hotz accepted the offer on Saturday from Terry Daidone, the founder of cell-phone refurbishing company Certicell. If only Hotz had held out for a BMW or an Audi, he could have used his new ride to play music from one of his new phones. We're pretty confident that the whiz kid might be able to figure out a workaround for his new Nissan, though.

could a 17 year old kid score a brand new ride by hacking a cellphone.
Much props kid!
If the taxes do not squash this deal, then the auto insurance for a teenager driving a Nissan 350Z will.
He should have held out for straight cash.
Although the kid was smart enough to out fox Apple with their
"wonder phone," he should have realized that his hack could
have generated him enough money through a proper contract
with iterested parties to buy the Nissan dealership instead of
just getting the door prize.
Way to sell yourself short! Hope there are some lessons to be
learned about the business world in here for you somewhere.
And hopefully you'll educate yourself about the business world
so that next time you won't be taken advantage of in the manner
in which you were fooled.
for the hardware (i.e., the first phone converted) - not for any IP
related to the conversion. the kid paid $500 for a phone and
got a $30,000 car for his work.
i'm not sure about the legality of his hack, but it is nice for him
that he got such a large amount of money for the hardware on
which he performed the work.
he's also clearly going to be a superstar.
