San Francisco photographer Christopher Irion used software from Blurb.com to create Farley's Pet Parade, a book of shots he took of costumed pets and their owners for an annual Halloween event.

The company's free downloadable software, BookSmart, lets people without design experience lay out pages, choose background colors and fonts, and edit photos. The design templates were created by book design experts.
