Image: Optical signals delayed

IBM is working on delaying light signals, which is key to developing chips that can relay signals with optical fiber.

This is a false-colored and distorted SEM (scanning electron microscope) image of an optical delay line composed of up to 100 microrings. Optical signals, or photons that represent data, have to loop through the rings to get between two fairly close points on a chip's surface.
