Overture boosts European presence

Overture on Friday said it signed two key partnerships to provide paid search listings in the United Kingdom and France, deals that widen its influence abroad. The Pasadena, Calif.-based company renewed its relationship with U.K. Internet service provider Freeserve, one of the country's top Web destinations with 2.5 million subscribers, in a multiyear, exclusive deal. The original two-year contract was up for review in November and was briefly extended earlier this month. Financial terms were not disclosed.

In addition, Overture signed on with Freeserve's French parent company, Wanadoo, which operates one of the largest ISPs in France and is a subsidiary of France Telecom. Overture will provide commercial search results to Wanadoo's 8 million subscribers in an exclusive deal. The company already provides search results to ISPs including T-Online, AOL Europe, MSN and Tiscali.
