Apple grooms Panther OS X

Apple Computer on Wednesday released an update to its Mac OS X operating system, also known as Panther. Apple said that the Version 10.3.4 update "delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability" and recommended that all Panther users upgrade their systems.

Among the changes, Apple said the new version offers improved disk-burning and disk-recording functions, better file-sharing, new graphics drivers and updates to the Address Book, Mail, Safari and QuickTime programs. The software also incorporates the company's already released security patches. The revamp is available through Panther's software update feature and via download from Apple's Web site.

"disk" vs. "disc"
by May 26, 2004 4:09 PM PDT
Apple's release notes specifically refer to "disc" recording
capabiltiies.

It's industry-standard to refer to optical media as "discs" and
fixed/Winchester drives as "disks."

I'm surprised that the CNET editors would get this wrong. No,
you're not the NYT or WSJ, so sorry, you don't get to decide that
the OED wins over standard tech terms.
