Sony to host PlayStation 3 premiere party Nov. 8
Thanks to our friends at Kotaku, we learn that Sony is planning an exclusive Nov. 8 PlayStation 3 premiere party in Los Angeles.
Yes, that's nine days before the Nov. 17 North American PS3 launch and three days before the Nov. 11 Japanese launch.
According to a Web page Sony has up on which PS3 fans can apply for the chance to get invited to the L.A. shindig, admission ducats will be awarded to those the company's judges deem to have best demonstrated why they "deserve" to go to the event.
That means would-be attendees have to submit either a video "screen test," essay, poem, PowerPoint presentation or "any other creative presentation that shows us why you deserve to go to the" party.
Entrants have until Oct. 15 to get their stuff to Sony, and the company says it will pick 10 winners, each of whom will get plane tickets, hotel rooms, food money and a free PS3 ("please allow 20 weeks for delivery").
Calls to Sony about the party were not returned Wednesday.
Since we here at CNET News.com haven't received an invitation to the party, we don't know much about it. But, having been to the Xbox 360 launch event last fall in the Mojave desert, we can only hope that the PS3 event is glitzy, aimed at gamers and different than the usual Tinseltown party.
But it would be good if the winners of the contest would be able to walk away from the party with their consoles. I'm just saying.
