Eclipse packs ten projects in Callisto, adds Motorola
The Eclipse open-source foundation will release software from ten of its projects in tandem next Friday, reflecting the maturity of Eclipse and open-source software, in general.
The Callisto release includes updates to the Eclipse platform, which other tools can plug into. In addition, there are updates to the business intelligence tools project, Eclipse Modeling Framework, the Web Tools Platform and others.
"One of the things we focus on is to carefully work toward being a stable and predictable provider of technology whether it's to IT organizations or ISVs," said Mike Milinkovich, the executive director of Eclipse.
In the past, Eclipse released the core platform first and then add-on projects would send out their updates one to twelve weeks later.
He predicted that next year Eclipse will have another major release in about a year with even more projects joining the synchronized "release train."
Separately, mobile phone manufacturer on Thursday said it will join the Eclipse Foundation.
Motorola will propose an Eclipse Tools for mobile Linux project.
